October 21 2012

So as I'm going through this blog I realized I haven't posted what happened that lead up to me having him so early.  So on October 20 I was at work and around 8 pm I started feeling cramps but I didn't think anything of it cause I just figured it was him getting bigger or moving around.  They kept persisting and getting much worse through the night.  Every couple minutes I would get these sharp pains that would last 30 seconds to 1 minute.  Flash forward to Sunday the 21st.  I didn't get any sleep the night before cause of the cramps but I tried to forget about it cause we had a big day ahead of us. My sister Holly and her husband Brandon were in town with their two kids visiting before moving to Missouri.  We had plans to go to my moms house in Tooele about an hour away to spend the night.  So I got up and started making French toast.  I was living with my brother Matthew and his wife Sarah at the time and my other brother Robert had spent the night.  Holly and Matthew took Robert to my dads house and my cramps were so bad I was laying on the floor in the Kitchen.  This next part is a bit TMI.  I had to go to the bathroom and I lived in the basement so I gingerly walked down the stairs and went to the bathroom.  There was blood all over my underwear and in the toilet so needless to say I was panicking thinking I was having a miscarriage.  So I walked back upstairs and told my Brother in law that I needed to get to the hospital right away.  So we rushed outside but he realized he didn't want to get blood on his seat so he grabbed a towel first lol.  I can laugh about that now.  My Sister in law stayed at the house with the two kids and called Holly to have her come back as soon as possible so she came back with Robert so he could stay with the kids.  Meanwhile me and Brandon get to the hospital and they took me to triage to see what was going on.  They hooked me up to the monitor and the monitors didn't show any contractions even though clearly I was having them.  Brandon stayed with me until Holly and Sarah got to the hospital.  The rest is a bit hazy but I remember the doctor coming in and checking me out and saying they have to get Kayden out as soon as possible I had already lost a lot of blood and Kayden wasn't getting enough oxygen.  Thirty minutes later I was having an emergency C-section.  Holly stayed with me the whole time during surgery and I remember being so tired and wanting to fall asleep.  The nurse said it was ok so I passed out and when I woke up I was still in that room and Holly wasn't there so I asked the nurse where she was and the nurse told me she went to see if Kayden was ok.  When she came back she said he tried to cry and they were working on keeping him alive.  She told me that he weighed 1.10 lbs and was 13 inches long. I wouldn't have made it through that day if it wasn't for my family.  Holly was my life saver that day I don't know how I would have made it through surgery without her.  I remember as they were getting me ready for surgery asking her why this was happening with tears in my eyes so scared for my babies life afraid I wouldn't be strong enough for the months and years to come.  She just kept saying I don't know I don't know trying to be brave for me.  It turns out I had something called placenta abruption where the placenta tears away from the uterus.  What's crazy is thinking that if we had left to go to my moms I would have been on the side of the road dealing with this and it could be a very different outcome.
